Welcome to Watts Helicopters

Watts Helicopters is an Australian-based company that offers a number of helicopter charters, aerial photography and aerial work services from locations in;

Canberra ACT... Ballarat VIC...(Commencing 2012)

We can provide or arrange the following helicopter services throughout Australia:

1. Fire fighting and fire fighting support

With our AS350B3 Squirrel we offer water bombing, incendiary dropping, mapping of fire fronts and fire fighting support. With experienced fire fighting pilots we endeavour to work closely with fire fighting agencies, Forestry, Emergency Services and local bodies for the best possible outcomes in fire suppression.

2. Filming and photography

This is an obvious marriage of an ideal platform and the requirement to get a job done. With experience in still and motion filming and photography we are able to offer a helicopter that suits your budget and needs. We are also able to arrange a variety of camera mounts for the motion picture industry.

If you require us to also provide a photographer we have several local professional photographers to choose from and we have several hi definition cameras to choose from.

3. Aerial crane and lifting

The helicopter is able to get your load into small hard to get at locations. We are often asked to lift in spa pools and pool tables to rooftop apartments, Concrete, building materials also the replacement or installation of air conditioner units and advertising signs also is a task we are often asked to complete.

Depending on the weight of the load you need moved we can advise on a helicopter that can do the job.

4. Aerial advertising

This can either be one of our helicopters having temporary decals on it for a particular function, advertising campaign or event. Alternatively we are able to have made up a large banner that can be towed under the helicopter and flown near an event or populated area in order to maximise exposure. In order to quote correctly we need details of your specific requirements.

5. Aerial survey and inspection

Gas pipelines, transmission lines, property, waterways, roads, forestry and anything that needs to be viewed from the air can be done efficiently and accurately by a helicopter. We are able to couple this with satellite tracking, GPS marking and overlay onto various map types.

6. Mineral exploration and sampling

Stream and soil sampling, geo survey, grid lines, boundary patrol and other mining support work.

7. Search and Rescue

By day we are able to search and then offer rescue where appropriate when called upon by AMSA or other local authorities.

8.Executive Charter

We are finding that this is becoming more and more popular as businessmen and corporations need to move around without the added hassle of planning their business around an airlines schedule and the obvious delays. We minimise taxis, we minimise waiting times, we don’t lose your baggage and we work to your time table.

We are able to transport you in air-conditioned comfort from our bases or alternatively we may be able to pick you up from your offices and then take you to your meeting directly.

We have catered for trips as small as 30 minutes and as large as a way for a month.

We have toured quarries, rural properties, building developments, machinery businesses, mining and gas infrastructure just to name a few.

If you need to move around to a time table that suits you then we can do it faster, more efficiently and with greater flexibility than any other form of transport.

9.Frost Control

Protect Your Crops from Frost Damage

Frost represents the greatest weather-related danger to Southern Australian crops!

Helicopters provide an excellent solution to the danger frost represents to crops. The powerful rotor down-wash of a slow-moving helicopter can circulate warm air around the plants thus preventing frost or eliminating if it has started to form. A helicopter is as effective at frost control as wind machines are under the same conditions, but can protect up to 40 acres by flying slowly over the crops.

10.Diseased and feral animal control

Aquila Helicopters is able to utilise a range of helicopters to conduct feral animal control. The company can conduct controlled shoots for numerous government and private clients throughout Australia

  • Helicopters are equipped with shooters foot rests to allow for ease of operation from the helicopter.
  • Turbine or piston engine aircraft available.
  • Pilots are experienced in animal and remote operations.
  • Aircraft can mount moving map systems to monitor animals culled or spotted and also allowing for strict operational boundaries.

11.Powerline and Pipeline Inspections

Aquila helicopters utilises the helicopter to conduct survey operations on power and pipeline assets. The helicopter allows for safety, flexibility and cost effectiveness in surveying network assets, vegetation and for human interference.

Aquila helicopters can help you manage your network through several different methods.

Methodical patrol

This patrol is slow and in depth with the helicopter stopping at every asset and conducting a detailed inspection. The helicopter may also use a LIDAR or thermal camera to gain different types of data depending on requirements.

Asset Patrol

The asset patrol allows for a fast efficient inspection of assets and vegetation on powerline networks and pipelines. The helicopter is able to cover hundreds of kilometres in a short amount of time giving a thorough overview of the asset being inspected.

Storm Patrol

After storms and cyclones the helicopter is the perfect means to quickly inspect assets and ascertain any damages that they have received. The helicopter can also be used to transfer crews or sling poles or equipment to sites inaccessible by road.

Watts Helicopters utilises;
  • Onboard computer moving maps with power network overlays linked to GPS
  • Global Positioning System (GPS)
  • Sat phones
  • LIDAR or Thermal cameras when required
  • Mobile refuelling vehicles to reduce ferry time and cost
